My paper mache sculptures have a mixture of influences, from my background in illustrating children’s books, to a fascination with creating characters in animal or human form. I’m fascinated with anthropomorphising animals, and how, in the process of doing this, human foibles become more acceptable. I use paper mache and clay to create basic forms, followed by fabrics, haberdashery, vintage papers, embroidery, sewing and collage. Narrative is central to my work, and each piece has its own story.
